This is a part-time job that carries a full-time commitment. You are expected to know everything a full-time officer knows, and to perform in a manner tha's on-par with your full-time co-workers. Start with dieting and exercise. Practice Jiu-Jitsu. Shine your boots. Learn the 10-Codes. Google-search Rule 3 and Rule 4. Familiarize yourself with the neighborhoods that you'll patrol: locate all the schools, government buildings, community centers, then learn multiple ways to drive to these locations, and read about the history of your Department. Know what is expected of you by your superiors. Have the proper mindset- no FTO wants to ride with a know-it-all trainee. Put together a work bag. Ask the right questions (when is the next Academy class; do you pay for training; how soon after Academy graduation may I start; how often do part-timers work per month; have you had any failures in the past 2 years; may I meet some of your FTOs?). Our Board will gladly help you. Take the initiative and contact us now.
